TCF EXAM (TEST DE CONNAISSANCE DU FRANCAIS) The French Institute is now the only examination centre in Ireland for the TCF. Please contact us for registration forms or information about the exam and upcomig sessions (one or two, on Friday mornings, per month). This language level test from the French ministries of National Education, Higher Education and Research, assesses French skills as a foreign language for non-native speakers. There are 4 different types of exams for the TCF: TCF – FRENCH KNOWLEDGE TEST FOR CANADA The French Knowledge Test for Canada, TCF Canada, is a French language level test that meets the standards of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in the event of economic immigration or obtaining Canadian citizenship. Persons concerned by these procedures can justify their French level by including a TCF Canada certificate in their application. The TCF Canada consists of 4 tests: general French language skills in oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral production and written production. TCF Canada comes in the form of 39 multiple choice questions for oral comprehension and 39 multiple choice questions for written comprehension, each question having only one correct answer (the comprehension questions are progressively difficult); 3 tasks for oral production, and 3 tasks for written production. The result obtained in the test gives rise to the issue of a certificate, valid for 2 years.
TCF – FRENCH KNOWLEDGE TEST FOR QUEBEC TCF Québec is a specific version of the Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF) which has been elaborated by the CIEP based on the request of the Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities of Québec to assess the level of competency in French, specifically the listening and oral skills, of an audience that wishes to emigrate to Québec. The test is comprised of 29 multiple choice questions for oral comprehension and 29 multiple choice questions for written comprehension, each question having only one correct answer; 3 tasks for oral production, and 3 tasks for written production.
TCF – GENERAL PUBLIC TCF for general public, an official test awarded by the French Ministry of Education, is designed to assess your French competency. Take this test if you do not have neither the DELF B2 (Diplôme d’étude de langue française) nor the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française), as it is useful for preliminary admission to undergraduate university studies and school of Architecture in France. The TCF is a multiple choice questionnaire comprising 76 questions: written and oral comprehension of French, structures of the French language, and it also includes complementary and optional oral and written expression tests.

PREPARATION FOR THE EXAM: DELF-DALF-TEF The DELF (known in French as the Diplôme d'études en langue française, or Diploma of French studies) and the DALF (known in French as the Diplôme approfondi de langue française or Diploma of Advanced French Language Studies) are certifications of French-language abilities for non-native speakers administered by France's International Centre for French Studies (CIEP) for the country's Ministry of Education. The French Institute aim is to equip students, who are attempting the DELF A2, B1 or B2 exam, or the DALF C1 or C2 exam, with the necessary tools to pass the exam successfully. The TEF (known in French as the Test d'évaluation du français) is a language placement test for non-native speakers of French also administered by the CIEP. It is recognized by universities as fulfilling French language entry requirements, and can also be used to demonstrate language ability for job applications or for personal use.
